If you have been following our Friday Font Fun, you know font specification can be challenging but also a lot of fun!
This month we are talking about web fonts. Have you ever considered the fonts on your website? Could these fonts use an update? Maybe your whole site could use a refresh? Choosing the right font hierarchy is an important aspect for any web design project.
For designers, the introduction of accessible web fonts through services such as Typekit and Google Fonts are an invaluable web resource. These services enable us to not only to continue creating beautiful websites, but also enhances sophisticated functionality by incorporating dynamic type nearly everywhere on a website, even for mobile display.
Web fonts are not a new concept, but these services are relatively recent: Typekit launched in 2009 with Google Fonts following in 2010. However, you can still find many contemporary websites that could benefit from accessible web fonts as well as a designer who truly understands current web development best practices.
At Just Flow, we prefer Google Fonts due to the range of offered fonts and the fact that it is open source (which means …. FREE!). Google recently updated their font interface for better functionality and a cleaner design. In fact, some are calling it a design geek’s paradise. (The struggle is real.)
With Google Fonts, you can peruse over 800 font choices, sort for specific font styles, adjust sizing, and many more countless options to analyze these choices. The new interface features also reveals which fonts are trending, which are the most popular, and even compare options side by side! Google Fonts has also added bio information for each font’s designer so you can read up on who created each font. Now doesn’t that sound like paradise found?
